One Panel Down? Here Is How We Find It
In Red Mountain Ranch, a lot of solar panel repair calls come down to a single panel. Many rooftop systems, especially newer ones, use microinverters, one small inverter under each module, so a failure shows up as one gray square in the monitoring app while the rest of the array keeps working. That is easier to live with than a dead string inverter, but those losses add up, and a second or third failure often follows the first.
Why microinverters fail
Each microinverter sits in the narrow gap between the panel and the roof, which is one of the hottest spots on a house in a Mesa summer. Over years of heat cycles, internal components wear out. Water intrusion at a connector, a damaged trunk cable, or a rodent chewing through wiring can also take one or more units offline. The monitoring app tells us which panel is affected; a roof visit tells us why.
How we replace a microinverter
- Confirm the fault in the monitoring system and on the roof
- Remove the panel above the failed unit, keeping the racking undisturbed
- Install a compatible replacement and register it with your monitoring gateway
- Check the neighboring connectors and cable while the panel is off
- Reinstall the module and verify it reports power
If your original model is no longer made, we explain the compatible options and whether the change counts as a system modification for your utility.
Living with an HOA
If your Red Mountain Ranch home is governed by an HOA, Arizona law, A.R.S. 33-1816, says a planned community association cannot prohibit the installation or use of a solar energy device. An association can adopt reasonable rules about where panels go, but those rules cannot prevent installation, impair the system's functioning, restrict its use, or adversely affect its cost or efficiency. Separately, A.R.S. 33-439 makes deed restrictions that effectively prohibit solar void, except in instruments entered into before April 17, 1980. A repair that leaves the array in the same place and looking the same usually needs nothing from the HOA, but if panels will be moved or added, check with the architectural committee first.
The setting
The community takes its name from the red-rock mountain to the north. That peak, also called Mount McDowell, rises to 2,832 feet on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation just north of Mesa, and its sandstone conglomerate glows red at sunset. The Red Mountain Ranch golf course, at the far northeast corner of the East Valley, is a Pete Dye design. Open desert and fairways bring birds, so ask us about guards if you see nesting under the array. Call (602) 833-7492 to book.

Red Mountain Ranch Questions
Two of my panels show zero in the app. Is that one problem or two?
It can be either. Two failed microinverters are possible, but a damaged trunk cable or connector can also take neighboring panels offline. We test before replacing anything.
Will a replacement microinverter match my old system?
We use units that are compatible with your gateway and panels. If the exact model is discontinued, we explain the options before work starts.
